Churches and how time has affected them is my subject matter for this project. Churches Fall Apart Too, is the title I find to be the most fitting. The details I sought to reveal in this set of photos is how time has not been generous to the buildings. They were once maintained and repaired. But now the broken windows and damaged doors will stay that way. I used the natural evening light to capture these pictures and to give them the best overall color. I have always been intrigued by churches and how many there can be in such small areas. I am also interested in how different places of worship can appear, and in this instance, how places that used to welcome people are now boarded up and receive no visitors. In taking structural photos and areas of dilapidation with this project, I returned to the churches several times to capture exactly what I wanted with the ideas I had in mind and with better light. I believe that this small project could be the start of a much larger one, consisting of many churches in Virginia.
